Dutch shipyard Heesen Yachts has officially delivered and christened the 49.8-metre hybrid superyacht Orion, marking another innovative step in eco-conscious yachting. Previously known as Project Orion, the vessel is now available for select charter clients through Ocean Independence.

Designed by Omega Architects, Orion features a striking silhouette and is powered by a hybrid propulsion system that enables near-silent cruising at speeds up to 10 knots—dramatically reducing fuel consumption and emissions.
“This milestone represents extraordinary teamwork between the owner, Ocean Independence, and Heesen,” noted broker Anton Foord. “We’re thrilled to see Orion begin the next chapter of her journey.”

Inside, designer Cristiano Gatto has created an interior that fuses luxury with comfort using over 35 materials, including high-gloss woods, leather, marble, and custom carpets. The six-cabin layout accommodates 12 guests, highlighted by a main-deck owner’s suite and a full-beam VIP cabin.

Guest amenities include a 26m² wellness area with a sauna and gym, and a 77m² sundeck equipped with sunpads, a whirlpool, and convertible party space featuring a wet bar and dining zone.
Technically advanced, Orion runs on two compact MTU 12V 2000 M61 engines paired with a Fast Displacement Hull Form, delivering fuel efficiency with just 45 litres per hour consumption in hybrid mode at 10 knots.

The launch comes during a busy period for Heesen, which currently has nine projects underway, including the recent debut of the 55m Solemates (formerly Project Venus).
