JFA Yachts Reaches Key Milestone on 51m Hybrid Aluminium Explorer

63

JFA Yachts has announced a major construction milestone on its cutting-edge 50.5-metre hybrid explorer yacht, as outfitting work progresses ahead of the vessel’s launch later this year. The French yard’s CEO, Frédéric Jaouen, hailed the moment as a “new milestone” in JFA’s ongoing evolution toward sustainable, large-format custom yachts.

Key numbers include a beam of 9.1 metres and a draft of two metres

With naval architecture and exterior lines from Humphreys Yacht Design, the all-aluminium explorer is built to balance serious expedition capabilities with hybrid propulsion and high comfort levels. The yacht boasts an impressive 9.1-metre beam, 2-metre draft, and is expected to achieve a top speed of 20 knots in hybrid boost mode.

Key Features:

  • Hybrid propulsion system with a high-capacity battery bank and integrated solar array for emission-free operation
  • A range of 5,000+ nautical miles at 12 knots
  • Three cranes supporting a 9.25m tender, rescue boat, Jet Skis, and toy launch operations
  • Centreline tank deck corridor providing crew access to technical spaces — rare on 50m light displacement yachts

Interiors are being crafted by m2atelier, the Milan-based studio known for sleek, contemporary designs and its recent collaboration with Azimut. Guest accommodation includes a private upper deck owner’s suite with its own lounge, office, and Jacuzzi terrace, plus four guest cabins below deck. The main deck hosts a full saloon, dining space, galley, and expansive outdoor lounge with a bar, barbecue, and sunpads.

Large panels of glazing and single-level decks characterise the exterior, providing 360-degree views

The vessel’s layout prioritises clear divisions between guest and service areas for maximum privacy and efficiency. Large windows and flat deck levels ensure 360-degree views and seamless circulation throughout.

Client-side project oversight is being led by A2B Marine Projects, with Christian Poorte and Michel Siou managing the project for the owner and yard respectively.

The hybrid explorer yacht will debut as one of the most technically ambitious custom builds in JFA’s history and underscores the builder’s commitment to innovative, sustainable long-range yachting.
