Van der Valk Launches 35m Custom Superyacht Lalabe

-

Dutch builder Van der Valk Shipyard has officially launched its 35.3-metre custom motor yacht Lalabe, formerly known as Project Samba. The bespoke yacht, commissioned by an experienced owner in 2023, will now undergo outfitting and sea trials ahead of her summer 2025 delivery, followed by her global debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September.

Built on the award-winning Lady Lene platform, Lalabe features exterior and naval architecture by Guido de Groot, who also co-designed the interiors alongside the owner. Described as a yacht for “three generations of family,” Lalabe is crafted for both comfort and sophistication.

Elegant Interiors, Thoughtful Layout

Initial renderings showcase a minimalist yet refined interior, defined by curved furniture, light woods, and LED mood lighting. Accommodation includes five cabins, with a standout master suite on the main deck offering a private office and lounge. A striking central staircase connects the lower to the bridge deck and serves as a functional art piece within the yacht.

Outdoor Living Prioritised

True to Van der Valk’s reputation for innovation, Lalabe’s exterior spaces shine. Highlights include:

  • Integrated balconies off the wheelhouse
  • A generous aft deck with a lounge zone and dining area
  • A beach club equipped with a sauna, day head, and towel-ready laundry
  • A custom swim platform for easy water access

The galley, designed for frequent use, features ample counter space and a central cooking island.

A Standout at Cannes

Van der Valk’s head of sales, Yoeri Bijker, emphasized the yacht’s bespoke nature:

Lalabe is not a semi-custom yacht — she’s a fully custom creation, built from the waterline up. She’s a true reflection of what makes Van der Valk unique: tailored excellence combined with Dutch craftsmanship.”

Lalabe is expected to reach top speeds of 17 knots and will be a highlight of Van der Valk’s display at Cannes.

This launch follows the yard’s recent expansion, with a new 2,540-square-metre construction hall, and comes on the heels of the delivery of the 34.1m yacht One, another fully custom project.
