Thrills in the Balearics as Ibiza JoySail Crowns New Champions

The fifth edition of Ibiza JoySail came to a thrilling close this weekend (18–21 September), after four days of competitive sailing, lively conditions and some of the closest finishes the event has ever seen. The finale unfolded on a 12-nautical-mile triangular course, with strong afternoon winds testing the mettle of every yacht.

In the Performance Cruising XL class, it was the 30.2-metre L’Hippocampe that once again rose to the top, clinching victory for the second year running and edging out the 28.3-metre Spiip in a razor-thin contest.

The Performance Cruising L class saw the 31.4-metre Liberty Squared dominate with her third race win, securing the overall class title. Hot on her heels was Kiboko 4, another Southern Wind build, which not only earned second place but also claimed the Corinthian Trophy and the prestigious eponymous trophy. The 35.4-metre Gelliceaux, returning for her second Ibiza JoySail, crossed the final line just 17 seconds behind Kiboko 4, sealing third overall.

Drama was high in the Performance Cruising M class, where the Café Racer rivals Open Season and Ganesha battled fiercely. In the end, Open Season prevailed, winning both the final race and the overall title. “It is very evenly matched and once you get ahead, you have a big advantage—it’s difficult to overtake,” said Open Season’s helm, Thomas Bscher. “We are very happy, we have had a great week, and we will come back!”

Meanwhile, the Performance Class was dominated by the 35.2-metre Moat, who secured her fifth consecutive Ibiza JoySail title with four straight wins across the week. Jasi followed in second place, while the striking lime-green Morgana completed the podium and claimed the Southern Wind Trophy.

The 2025 edition of Ibiza JoySail once again confirmed its place as one of the Mediterranean’s most exciting regattas, combining world-class racing with the vibrant spirit of Ibiza and Mallorca.
