The Yacht Club de Monaco (YCM) is preparing to host the annual Explorer Awards by La Belle Classe Superyachts

-

Held under the patronage of H.S.H. Prince Albert II, the awards are now a benchmark for sustainability and innovation in the yachting world.

Honoring a Legacy of Exploration

Launched in 2018, the Explorer Awards celebrate superyachts whose owners and captains contribute to marine conservation, scientific research, and the advancement of eco-conscious technology. These honors reflect the enduring legacy of Prince Albert I, a visionary oceanographer and early advocate for marine science, and aim to reinforce Monaco’s role as a hub for responsible yachting.

Four Prestigious Categories

Each year, a distinguished jury selects winners across four major categories, with the awards presented by Prince Albert II and explorer Richard Wiese, President of The Explorers Club:

  • Technology & Innovation
  • Science & Discovery
  • Adventure & Environmental Ethics
  • Coup de Cœur (jury’s special recognition)

Last year’s winners included notable vessels such as S/Y Cachalotte (Tech & Innovation), M/Y Archimedes (Science & Discovery), M/Y Gigi (Adventure & Ethics), and M/V Latitude, which received the Coup de Cœur distinction.

Sustainability at Sea

In his opening remarks, Prince Albert II emphasized the vital role superyachts can play in marine protection, stating, “Thanks to their strong environmental awareness, yacht owners play and will continue to play a crucial role in marine exploration.”

The awards are closely linked to initiatives such as the SEA Index®, launched in collaboration with Credit Suisse. This carbon rating system helps yacht owners assess and improve their vessel’s environmental impact, reinforcing the Yacht Club de Monaco’s leadership in sustainable yachting practices.

Monaco Ocean Week Highlight

Held during Monaco Ocean Week, the Explorer Awards form part of a larger effort to bring together scientists, policymakers, and industry leaders. The ceremony is more than a celebration—it is a call to action, promoting innovation and responsibility in ocean navigation.

Charting the Future

By recognizing trailblazers in design, science, and ethical exploration, the Explorer Awards continue to shift the narrative in luxury yachting—from status symbol to platform for positive change. As the 2025 edition draws near, all eyes turn to Monaco, where the future of responsible yachting is taking shape—one award at a time.
