The fifth edition of the Ibiza JoySail Regatta, co-organized by STP Shipyard Palma and Marina Ibiza, has once again proven why it stands among the Mediterranean’s most anticipated and beloved superyacht events. Over four spectacular days, 22 magnificent yachts gathered at Marina Ibiza to close the Mediterranean season with a perfect blend of world-class racing, Corinthian spirit, and the unmistakable rhythm of Ibiza and Formentera.
A Unique Blend of Passion and Performance
Ibiza JoySail continues to grow—not only in numbers but in soul. Half of this year’s fleet raced in Corinthian mode, allowing owners and amateur sailors to compete shoulder-to-shoulder with some of the sport’s biggest names, from Olympic medalists to offshore veterans. “It’s a wonderful place to reconnect with everyone in the sailing world,” said Mark Sadler, tactician aboard Ganesha.
Each day brought a different challenge: long coastal races around Es Vedrà and Formentera, or tighter inshore battles in Talamanca Bay. Under the direction of Race Officer Nacho Postigo, competitors faced a mix of brisk easterlies and soft Mediterranean breezes—conditions that showcased both skill and strategy. “It’s absolutely stunning to race around Ibiza,” shared Thomas Lundqvist from Nostromo.
Corinthian Values, Ibiza Vibes
At its heart, Ibiza JoySail celebrates the true essence of sailing: camaraderie, fair play, and love for the sea. The event’s relaxed yet competitive tone creates an atmosphere where friendships thrive as much as rivalries. After racing, crews gathered at the hospitality tent, sharing stories and laughter as the sun set behind Dalt Vila.
From high-performance Swans to elegant Spirit Yachts and timeless classics like Aurelius and Geist, the regatta displayed the full beauty of superyacht design.
Life Ashore: The Soul of the Event
The onshore program matched the vibrancy of the races. Dinners at Roto Restaurant, dockside gatherings, and live music kept spirits high long after the last sail was lowered. “The racing is fantastic, the scenery is spectacular, and the evenings bring the whole community together,” said William Dovey, captain of Karibu.
Champions of the Sea
This year’s winners reflected the diversity and strength of the fleet:
- 🏆 Moat claimed a record fifth consecutive win in the Performance Class.
- L’Hippocampe triumphed in Performance Cruising XL after a close duel with Spiip.
- Liberty Squared led the Performance Cruising L division.
- Open Season took the Performance Cruising M title.
- Aurelius shone in World Cruising, also winning the Perpetual Trophy for the fastest Mallorca–Ibiza crossing.
In the Corinthian divisions, Esense, Kiboko 4, Viento, and Aurelius all stood atop their respective categories, embodying the event’s spirit of fair play and joy.
A Fitting Finale
As sails came down and the Mediterranean sun set on Marina Ibiza, the atmosphere was filled with satisfaction and anticipation for next year. Ibiza JoySail has become more than a regatta—it’s a community, a celebration, and a reminder of why we love the sea.
