From Design to Construction: Theodoros Fotiadis Unveils Astra Nord Shipyard in Germany

Greek designer Theodoros Fotiadis has announced the launch of a new German shipyard, Astra Nord, dedicated to building and refitting large superyachts. Located in the historic maritime hub of Stralsund, Northern Germany, the new facility is capable of delivering new-build projects over 65 metres and performing refits on vessels up to 295 metres.

The launch marks a significant step in reviving Northern Germany’s superyacht-building presence, following the closure of Nobiskrug. Astra Nord aims to fill that gap in the market by offering cutting-edge design, advanced engineering, and a strong emphasis on customer care.

The yard has already secured its first refit contract, the 47.2-metre Ocean Dreamwalker III, and has begun developing a series of 65- to 96-metre yacht designs.

“We want to redefine what owners can expect from a shipyard — not only in terms of design and quality but in long-term service and reliability,” said Fotiadis. “Whether it’s routine maintenance, upgrades or technical assistance, our global network of skilled technicians and support staff ensures your yacht performs at its best.”

Facility Highlights

  • 97,000 sqm of fully covered and heated space
  • 32,000 sqm of office space
  • 24,000 sqm of workshop areas
  • Main shed: 300m x 110m x 75m
  • 800-tonne crane
  • 270-metre ship lift

These specifications position Astra Nord among the most capable superyacht facilities in Northern Europe, ready to compete with established names while offering new flexibility and innovation.

Introducing Project Neon

Among Astra Nord’s first in-house designs is Project Neon, a 78-metre concept developed in collaboration with Lateral Naval Architects. Neon uses a bulkhead-free platform to create seamless connections between indoor and outdoor spaces.

The yacht’s design features floor-to-ceiling glazing, retractable glass walls, and fold-down terraces that erase traditional boundaries between the vessel and the sea. Fotiadis describes it as “a yacht that invites you in, takes you further, and never lets you feel disconnected from the beauty around you.”

The interiors blend hand-selected woods, textured fabrics, and ambient lighting to deliver a timeless aesthetic with a distinctly modern feel.

Neon is currently available for sale with Moravia Yachting.

Fotiadis’ Berlin-based studio is already renowned for its visionary yacht designs, including the 140-metre trimaran concept Spear and the 105-metre superyacht 5th Element. With Astra Nord, the designer now steps fully into the world of yacht construction — bringing his bold, architectural style to life in one of Europe’s most advanced new shipyards.
