The first unit of the highly anticipated Amels 80 series has officially entered sea trials in Vlissingen, the Netherlands, marking a major milestone for Damen Yachting as it pushes the boundaries of hybrid propulsion and custom design. Launched in April 2025 and slated for delivery later this summer, the 80-metre yacht is already turning heads with her bold lines and luxurious features.
With an interior volume of 2,175GT, the Amels 80 is the largest offering in the yard’s Limited Editions range. Construction began on speculation, and the yacht was quickly secured by a client just six months into the build — a sale facilitated by Burgess, who continue to act as the owner’s representative.
“The sea trials offer a unique opportunity to experience firsthand the innovation, design, and power that this yacht delivers,” said project manager Romke van der Linde.
A Collaboration of Icons
The yacht’s sleek exterior bears the hallmark of Espen Øino, while the interiors come from Dutch studio Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design, in their first-ever collaboration with Damen Yachting. The result is a seamless blend of modern elegance, natural materials, and functional luxury.
One of the most striking features is the 6.5-metre aft swimming pool with transparent floor sections, allowing natural light to cascade into the beach club below. This area also features three fold-down sea terraces, creating an open-air waterfront lounge that links directly to the yacht’s spa, sauna, Hammam, massage room, and gym.
“Her modern, strong lines will look as good in 10 years as the day she is delivered,” commented Øino on the enduring appeal of the design.
Custom Living at Sea
Accommodation is set for 14 guests across seven cabins, including an expansive owner’s deck that functions as a private apartment. This space features dual bathrooms, a private office, and a lounge with a breakfast nook and library, all framed by floor-to-ceiling glass.
The Amels 80’s hybrid propulsion system and diesel-electric setup align with the growing demand for sustainable luxury at sea. Capable of a 5,000 nautical mile range at 12 knots, the yacht offers future-proof cruising, including the option for an electric tender and fast-charging station.
Design with Purpose
Atop the yacht sits a 200-square-metre sundeck, complete with a circular Jacuzzi, shaded bar, and al fresco dining area — surpassing most yachts in its class for outdoor space.
“We wanted to create a yacht where owners could connect with the sea — a timeless design with all the winning features of its predecessors,” said Rose Damen, managing director at Damen Yachting.
With standout features, unparalleled customization, and a powerful hybrid engine, the Amels 80 is poised to become a benchmark in the world of large, semi-custom superyachts.
