Italian shipyard Columbus Yachts, part of the Palumbo Superyachts group, has celebrated the successful launch of Big Naan, the inaugural unit in its much-anticipated Crossover 42 series. The launch ceremony took place at the yard’s facility in Savona, attended by the American owners, their guests, and local dignitaries.

Sold in 2023, Big Naan was introduced to her owner by Zarpo Yachts, with Trevor van Wyk serving as the owner’s representative throughout the project. The yacht blends the robust characteristics of an explorer with the sleek elegance expected from a modern superyacht.
Bold Design and Technical Sophistication
Hydro Tec is behind the Crossover 42’s “modern and muscular” exterior lines. The yacht’s design incorporates explorer-inspired features such as increased bow volume and a sharp, tapered stern. The layout is further enhanced by two pairs of zero-speed stabilisers to improve comfort both at anchor and underway.

Accommodations on board Big Naan cater to 12 guests, including a full-beam master suite complete with a central bed, walk-in wardrobe, desk area, and a luxurious bathroom featuring a double vanity. The crew quarters house up to nine crew members to ensure a high standard of service.
Interior design has been handled by Milan-based studio Hot Lab, known for their work on yachts such as Eternal Spark and Provocateur. While full details of the décor remain under wraps, the interior is expected to reflect Hot Lab’s signature style of refined minimalism with luxurious touches.
A Flexible and Functional Layout
One of the most notable features of the Crossover 42 is its versatile cockpit. The expansive aft area can host a large tender via a built-in crane and still has room for a generous 10-square-metre pool surrounded by sunpads and sofa seating. The sundeck offers additional flexibility with a fully equipped bar and a dining area that transforms into a sunlounge.

Powered by twin CAT C32 engines, Big Naan achieves a top speed of over 14 knots and cruises comfortably at 12 knots. At a reduced cruising speed of 10 knots, the yacht boasts an impressive transoceanic range of more than 5,500 nautical miles.
Looking Ahead
The launch of Big Naan marks a new milestone for Columbus Yachts, which currently has four superyacht projects under construction. Among them is the larger sibling to Big Naan, the Crossover 47, which recently began construction.
With its combination of explorer capability, luxury finish, and clever design solutions, the Columbus Crossover 42 is poised to become a favorite for adventurous owners seeking long-range performance without sacrificing comfort.
