A new force in the world of superyacht design has emerged as Athens-based studio IPYD, led by designer Ira Petromanolaki, reveals AETHER — an 80-metre concept crafted for Oceanco’s Simply Custom platform. First unveiled at the 2023 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, AETHER introduces a poetic fusion of symbolic geometry and streamlined sophistication to the custom yacht scene.

Part of Oceanco’s bold initiative to offer bespoke design on a shared technical platform, AETHER is engineered in collaboration with Lateral Naval Architects, and it joins a curated portfolio of designs such as Dunes by The Touch Studio and Ani by Vallicelli Design.
Sculptural Simplicity Rooted in Ancient Symbolism

Inspired by the ancient Greek element “aether” – considered the divine substance of the upper sky – the yacht is sculpted to convey harmony, convergence, and balance. IPYD’s use of the triangle as a visual motif reflects this philosophy, with sleek, fluid lines that guide the eye forward in a continuous visual flow. The yacht’s profile evokes a feeling of lightness and ethereal beauty, reinforcing its symbolic identity.
A Focus on Owner-Centric Experiences
While interior specifics remain under wraps, initial renderings of AETHER suggest a calm, neutral-toned environment tailored for relaxation and personalisation. The beach club features an open-plan layout with a spa pool, bar, and sun loungers – emphasizing a fluid connection between spaces and between the yacht and the sea.

The design also prioritizes natural light, spatial openness, and seamless indoor-outdoor transitions, reflecting the platform’s philosophy of elevated owner experiences on a technically unified base.

Oceanco’s Vision for Streamlined Customization
Oceanco’s Simply Custom concept is redefining what it means to build a custom yacht. By providing a standardised engineering foundation, the shipyard enables owners to collaborate with top-tier designers and studios for highly personalised outcomes without compromising on technical excellence.

AETHER is a clear example of how artistic vision and naval precision can coalesce — bringing new meaning to custom yacht design.
