Dutch shipyard Steeler Yachts has unveiled its latest explorer yacht, the 26.7-metre Ocean Explorer 88, introducing a new flagship to its Ocean Explorer range and the first model in the series to feature a tri-deck configuration.
Building on the existing Ocean Explorer 67, 72 and 85, the new model may be less than a metre longer than the 85, but Steeler describes the Ocean Explorer 88 as a substantially different yacht in terms of volume, functionality and layout.
Built for serious exploration
Designed in collaboration with Dutch designer Pim Dijksman, the Ocean Explorer 88 combines a round-bilged steel displacement hull with an aluminium superstructure, following the construction philosophy established across Steeler’s explorer range.
A beam of 7.5 metres and the additional deck create considerably more usable volume, allowing Steeler to introduce dedicated spaces for guests, crew, navigation and expedition equipment.
One of the most distinctive features is the work deck aft of the bridge, which can accommodate two tenders of up to seven metres, together with additional equipment and storage. A dedicated mooring area further supports the yacht’s expedition-focused operation.
Three decks, greater flexibility
The main deck is dedicated primarily to guest living, with a U-shaped seating area aft and a separate service galley. Independent crew routes help keep service operations discreet.
Behind the wheelhouse on the upper deck is a dedicated spa and wellness area, while the sundeck provides an expansive outdoor environment with al fresco dining, a sun lounge and bar.
The accommodation layout comprises four guest cabins, including a full-beam owner’s suite on the main deck, plus one VIP and two double cabins on the lower deck. Separate crew accommodation sleeps four, while the captain has a dedicated cabin close to the bridge.
The layout has been designed around a clear separation between guest and crew circulation, navigation and equipment storage, improving both privacy and operational efficiency.
5,000+ nautical miles of range
The Ocean Explorer 88 will be built to RINA Pleasure Yacht classification and will feature twin MAN D2676 engines as standard.
Steeler projects an autonomous range of more than 5,000 nautical miles, positioning the new model for extended passages and remote cruising far beyond conventional Mediterranean itineraries.

According to Joosten, the development of the new flagship has also been enabled by Steeler’s new facility in Meppel, opening further opportunities for the Dutch shipyard in the growing explorer yacht segment.
A new flagship for Steeler
The launch of the Ocean Explorer 88 comes as Steeler continues to expand its presence in the explorer market. Earlier this year, the shipyard announced the sale of the third unit in its 26-metre Ocean Explorer 85 series, which is already under construction and scheduled for delivery in 2027.
With its combination of steel construction, long-range capability, expedition storage and a more sophisticated tri-deck layout, the Ocean Explorer 88 represents Steeler Yachts’ most ambitious explorer platform to date.
For owners looking for a yacht designed to spend more time exploring and less time tied to conventional cruising routes, Steeler’s new flagship is clearly aimed at the go-anywhere end of the superyacht market.
