Dutch superyacht builder Oceanco has announced the acquisition of Winel, strengthening its technical capabilities and reinforcing its commitment to developing the next generation of custom superyachts.
Founded in 1956 and based in Assen, the Netherlands, Winel is a leading manufacturer of advanced marine equipment for the superyacht, commercial shipping and offshore industries. The company employs around 150 specialists across facilities in the Netherlands and Vietnam, producing high-quality solutions including watertight doors, hull doors, hatches, tank vent systems and bespoke yacht equipment.
The acquisition further expands the Oceanco Group, which already includes renowned companies such as Alewijnse, Aluship, Lateral and Mercury. Winel will continue operating under its current management while serving both existing and future clients.
The partnership between Oceanco and Winel dates back to the late 1990s, beginning with the development of lifting equipment for the iconic superyacht Al Mirqab. More recently, Winel engineered the innovative adjustable hull-door hinges aboard Oceanco’s flagship Leviathan, allowing the platforms to remain level regardless of sea conditions.
Marcel Onkenhout, CEO of Oceanco, said the acquisition supports the company’s vision of building the yachts of the future alongside owner Gabe Newell, while enabling even greater innovation in one of the most technically demanding areas of yacht construction.
Winel CEO Ake van der Vinne added that the company’s long-standing relationship with Oceanco provides the perfect foundation to develop groundbreaking maritime solutions and continue delivering industry-leading engineering excellence.
The acquisition marks another strategic step in Oceanco’s ongoing investment in advanced technology, in-house expertise and innovation for the global superyacht sector.
