Lateral Naval Architects Unveils 83m Concept HUB Redefining Yacht Architecture

-

Lateral Naval Architects has introduced HUB, an 83.3-metre superyacht concept developed in collaboration with byJC and Lawson Robb, aiming to challenge conventional yacht design through a radically reimagined layout and engineering approach.

At the core of the concept is Lateral’s Free From Bulkheads (FFB) platform, which rethinks traditional structural constraints by allowing watertight bulkheads to terminate at the lower deck. This innovation unlocks a fully open and flexible lower-deck environment—positioned close to the waterline—enabling entirely new spatial configurations and onboard experiences.

A New Approach to Space and Lifestyle

With a volume of 2,500GT, HUB is conceived as a “nexus of connectivity,” prioritising open-plan living and seamless transitions between interior and exterior spaces. The design is structured across three decks, each with a distinct identity yet unified through fluid, asymmetrical layouts.

A standout feature is the lower deck “Beach Cave”—a hybrid watersports hub and social space with opening hull platforms, designed to bring guests closer to the sea. Above, the main deck emphasises natural light and informal living, replacing traditional saloon divisions with flexible, flowing spaces. The upper deck completes the experience with a skylounge and outdoor dining area.

Design and Technology in Harmony

The yacht’s exterior styling, led by byJC, is paired with contemporary interiors by Lawson Robb, creating a cohesive design language focused on experience rather than convention.

Technologically, HUB is powered by an all-electric hybrid propulsion system, combining battery-driven operation with diesel generators for extended range and high-speed cruising. This setup enables quieter operation, reduced vibration and zero local emissions during certain operating modes.

Projected performance includes a top speed of 16.5 knots and a range of up to 7,000 nautical miles, supported by a compact machinery layout that further enhances onboard space efficiency.

Rethinking Modern Superyacht Design

Rather than simply evolving existing formats, HUB represents a broader shift in thinking—placing experience, flexibility and connectivity at the centre of yacht design.

With this concept, Lateral Naval Architects continues to push boundaries in the 80-metre segment, offering a glimpse into how future superyachts may be designed, built and experienced.
