Gloss Design Reveals Project Auralia, a 50m Hybrid Superyacht Concept Focused on Speed and Efficiency

-

Italian design studio Gloss Design has unveiled Project Auralia, a new 50-metre hybrid superyacht concept engineered to significantly shorten build times while maintaining the refinement and comfort expected in the custom yacht sector.

Conceived around the principles of efficiency, optimised volumes and reduced time to market, Project Auralia leverages Gloss Design’s cross-industry expertise, combining yacht design with advanced engineering solutions derived from the automotive and high-performance marine sectors.

The exterior styling adopts what the studio describes as a “restrained and sculptural language”. Clean surfaces, sleek proportions and a monochromatic grey colour scheme define the yacht’s contemporary profile, giving the concept a purposeful yet elegant presence on the water.

At the heart of Project Auralia is a proven naval platform, re-engineered from a hull originally developed and tested for high-performance patrol vessels. By adapting an existing, validated technical base, Gloss Design estimates that construction timelines could be reduced by up to 50 per cent compared to a conventional full-custom superyacht.

“With Auralia, we wanted to demonstrate how a superyacht can originate from a proven technical platform and evolve into an efficient, refined product centred on the owner’s experience,” said Stefano Carugno, founder of Gloss Design.

Despite remaining under 500GT, the three-deck layout has been carefully designed to maximise interior and exterior living spaces while balancing privacy, comfort and outdoor connection. Guest accommodation is arranged across four en suite double cabins on the lower deck, alongside dedicated crew quarters.

The lower deck also hosts a generous beach club with side-opening terraces, complemented by a wellness area featuring a sauna and steam room. A garage is included to house a 7.6-metre tender, supporting both leisure and operational flexibility.

On the main deck, a full-beam saloon measuring 9.2 metres in width integrates lounge, dining and bar areas into a single open-plan space. Forward, the owner’s suite includes a private office, dressing room and a compact spa area. Outdoor amenities on this level include a pool, sunpads and a bar, reinforcing the yacht’s emphasis on indoor-outdoor living.

The sundeck further enhances the lifestyle offering with al fresco dining, relaxed lounge seating, a Jacuzzi and an additional bar, making it a versatile space for both entertainment and quiet cruising.

Propulsion is provided by a hybrid system combining twin 2,000hp V12 diesel engines with four generators, two electric units and a 470kWh battery bank. According to the studio, this setup improves onboard comfort, autonomy and overall quality of life, while also enabling silent, zero-emission coastal cruising. Projected cruising speed is 12 knots, with the hybrid system designed to efficiently manage both propulsion and hotel loads.

With Project Auralia, Gloss Design positions itself at the intersection of innovation, efficiency and sustainability, offering a forward-thinking alternative for owners seeking reduced build times without compromising on design, performance or onboard experience.
