80m Feadship Project Thalassa Launched at Kaag Facility

-

The highly anticipated 80-metre Feadship superyacht Project Thalassa (hull 826) has officially been launched from the shipyard’s Kaag facility in the Netherlands, marking a key milestone in one of Feadship’s most secretive new builds.

In a rare technical sequence, the yacht’s mast was stepped before the vessel was fully released from the construction hall — a demonstration of the precision engineering and controlled launch procedures characteristic of Feadship’s Dutch craftsmanship.

A discreet but highly advanced build

Construction on Project Thalassa began in 2024, with the sale announced later that same year. The yacht first came into public view in April 2025, when her hull was transported from Rotterdam to Kaag for final outfitting.

Now entering the next phase of completion, Thalassa represents a new generation of Feadship builds focused on volume efficiency, clean exterior geometry, and highly integrated onboard experiences.

Design collaboration at the highest level

Project Thalassa brings together a strong triad of leading superyacht design expertise:

  • Exterior design: Malcolm McKeon Yacht Design
  • Interior design: m2atelier
  • Naval architecture: De Voogt Naval Architects (Feadship)

With an estimated volume exceeding 1,900 GT, the yacht presents a muscular yet refined profile, defined by a sharp hull form and a continuous band of windows running along her superstructure. The result is a balanced design language combining presence, light, and transparency.

Beach club as a defining feature

One of the most striking elements of Project Thalassa is her 165-square-metre beach club, reportedly featuring some of the largest opening systems ever built by Feadship.

With openings on three sides, the space dissolves the boundary between interior and sea, offering uninterrupted views and direct water access. The design transforms the aft section into a fully immersive lifestyle platform at sea level.

Across the yacht, a restrained and elegant palette of minimalist furnishings enhances the sense of openness and architectural clarity.

Accommodation and onboard experience

Project Thalassa is designed to accommodate up to 12 guests across six staterooms, supported by a crew of approximately 15 members.

The layout prioritizes privacy, circulation efficiency, and seamless guest experience, in line with modern expectations for large private yachts operating at global cruising scale.

Performance and range

Powered by twin MTU engines, Project Thalassa reaches:

  • Cruising speed: 14 knots
  • Top speed: 16 knots
  • Range: approximately 5,500 nautical miles at 12 knots

This combination positions the yacht for long-range Mediterranean, Atlantic, and global exploration capability, aligning with contemporary owner demand for autonomy and flexibility.

A new Feadship generation

Project Thalassa reflects Feadship’s continued evolution toward yachts that emphasize architectural clarity, technical sophistication, and lifestyle-driven spatial design.

As she moves into outfitting, the yacht stands as another example of the Dutch shipyard’s ability to combine traditional craftsmanship with next-generation superyacht engineering.

Outlook

With launch now completed, Project Thalassa enters her final outfitting phase ahead of sea trials and delivery.

She joins a growing fleet of modern Feadship builds that continue to define the upper segment of the global superyacht market — where design innovation, engineering precision, and bespoke lifestyle programming converge.
